Sasha Avanesov, PhD

Clinical Psychologist
San Francisco CA
I work from an eclectic perspective, informed by transpersonal, psychoanalytic, and emotionally-focused approaches. The approaches I use are tailored to an individual, from standard addiction treatment to existential and spiritual exploration. I weave mindfulness with various other evidence-based practices. Ultimately, I believe everyone has enough truth within them that can help guide them to healing. I trust in the process of unfolding your inner wisdom to help you tap into that truth so it can help you journey towards wholeness. How that looks depends on the individual, but folks I work with attest to experiencing hope, healing, and positive transformation. Whatever you might be experiencing right now, my heart goes out to you. Life can really suck. At times, seemingly impossible to “figure out”. Through my own life experiences and clinical work, I have experienced and witnessed profound suffering. Through all of that, I’ve learned there is a way. Reach out. I’d love to hear from you and help you find that way.
I am deeply committed to helping people transform their lives. I'm a former refugee from genocide, came to the USA at age 15 and a half. I've a BA in Physics from Reed (thesis in biophysics), worked as a software engineer in Portland, OR for 4 yrs, and came to the Bay Area to get a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, with an aim to integrate spirituality, psychology, and science. For the past 16+ years, I have been working with folks struggling with addiction and numerous dual diagnoses, most of whom are within the criminal justice system. I am also the current president of the Association for Transpersonal Psychology and have been certified in the basics of Org Design and Transformation. Additionally, led by inner spiritual calling, I have traveled extensively in Arizona and the Four Corners area. Reach out if any of this resonates, or if you are just curious to explore further.
