Biography

Nathan Rice, LCSW, is a harm-reduction-based, integrative psychotherapist, supervisor, and adjunct professor. Nathan is currently finishing post-graduate training in psychoanalysis at the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center (PPSC). He belongs to The Addiction Treatment Professionals consultation group, The American Association for Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work, The New York Society for Clinical Social Workers and has served on the Committee for Psychoanalysis and Addictions Treatment.

Nathan worked 4+ years at New York Pathways, a nationally recognized sex addiction treatment center where he helped people overcome out-of-control sexual behaviors. There, Nathan honed his skills in motivational enhancement and dyadic affect regulation to help clients overcome consequences of profound attachment traumas and regain control over their lives. For the past seven years, Nathan has worked with clients at the PPSC, a low-fee treatment clinic, where he provides psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. In addition, Nathan has a full time private practice in Manhattan, where he provides psychodynamic and integrative harm reduction therapy to individuals struggling with alcohol and substance use issues, out-of-control sexual behavior and anxiety and depression.

How I work with clients

“You’ve had a vision. You’re not able to use the power of it until you find a way to tell it.” –Wallace Black Elk

An intense experience with an altered state can offer a powerful window into what is possible in personal transformation and healing. Psychedelic experiences, though, must be integrated, learned from and acted upon in order to fully benefit from them. I specialize in helping people make sense of their psychological journeys and apply these insights to their lives in a systematic way. Whether you are looking to create a lifestyle free from alcohol or substance use issues, or just looking to augment your personal growth by processing deep, psychedelic revelations, I will work with you to articulate your goals and become your best self. I understand the complexity of personality structure and that real change, regardless of psychedelic infusions, takes place in the context of a relationship. It’s my job to create a safe, nonjudgmental atmosphere where we can begin to understand what psychedelic experiences are teaching you and use this knowledge to create the life you want. I work with people in a time-limited or open-ended way.
