Donald Currie, RP
Registered Psychotherapist
Algonquin Highlands ON
At Dimensions Algonquin Highlands, I work collaboratively with clients to support a safe, structured, and client-centred therapeutic environment for self-exploration and personal development. My approach is informed by somatic and trauma-informed psychotherapy.
At the start of a retreat, each client participates in an initial check-in where we collaboratively review goals, expectations, and safety considerations. This includes discussion of informed consent, participation in group programming, and any relevant considerations related to medications or overall well-being. Attention is also given to establishing a respectful and supportive group environment.
Throughout the retreat, I facilitate group psychotherapy sessions that support emotional exploration, reflective processing, and increased awareness of mind-body experiences. These sessions may incorporate somatic and relational approaches, along with complementary practices such as breathwork and sound-based relaxation, where appropriate. Participation is voluntary, and pacing is guided by client readiness and clinical judgment.
Within my role as a Registered Psychotherapist, I may support clients in preparing for and integrating experiences, with a focus on psychological safety and meaning-making.
In addition to group work, I offer individual psychotherapy sessions using approaches such as Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Deep Brain Reorienting, Internal Family Systems, and somatic attachment-based frameworks. The focus is on supporting clients in processing experiences, increasing self-awareness, and applying insights in ways that are meaningful in their daily lives.
My work is supported by an interdisciplinary team, with each provider working within their respective scope of practice. Complementary wellness practices may be offered alongside psychotherapy but are not a substitute for regulated mental health care. The overall approach emphasizes collaboration, informed consent, and individualized care. Outcomes may vary.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist and Clinical Director at Dimensions Algonquin Highlands, where I support the development and delivery of retreat-based programming informed by somatic and trauma-informed approaches. With over 20 years of experience, my work draws on evidence-informed practices, including neuroscience perspectives and modalities such as EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and Internal Family Systems.
Within my role, I provide psychotherapy in accordance with professional standards, supporting clients in exploring experiences related to stress, trauma, and mental health concerns such as anxiety and depression.
My approach emphasizes collaboration, informed consent, and psychological safety, with attention to each client’s readiness, goals, and capacity for therapeutic work. At Dimensions, psychotherapy is offered alongside optional complementary wellness practices such as yoga, breath work, and nature-based activities, which are not a substitute for regulated mental health care.
I have also maintained a private practice in Toronto and held a clinical role at Helix Healthcare Group, a centre focused on mental health and addiction. My work is grounded in supporting self-awareness, emotional processing, and connection, within a respectful and client-centred therapeutic relationship.
