Richard Zeifman, PhD

Clinical Psychologist
New York City NY
My approach is grounded in research on how psychedelic therapy fosters healing and change, emphasizing the importance of a genuine, collaborative therapeutic relationship. I aim to create a space where you feel understood, supported, and empowered to make meaningful changes in your life. I work from a collaborative and strengths-based perspective, integrating evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. For clients with posttraumatic stress disorder, I offer trauma-focused treatments, including Cognitive Processing Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Conjoint Therapy. Drawing on my experience as a study therapist and co-investigator in clinical trials of psilocybin and MDMA-assisted therapy, I also offer integration sessions for individuals exploring or reflecting on psychedelic experiences and those seeking continued support following psychedelic-assisted therapy.
I am a clinical psychologist (licensed in New York) and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology, where I direct the Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy (PATH) Lab at The New School for Social Research. I also serve as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine (Center for Psychedelic Medicine) and as an Honorary Lecturer at Imperial College London (Center for Psychedelic Research). I completed my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University, my clinical internship at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), and my postdoctoral fellowship at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. My research and clinical work focus on understanding and enhancing the safety and effectiveness of psychedelic-assisted therapy. I serve as a co-investigator and study therapist on several psilocybin and MDMA-assisted therapy trials. In my private practice (Wisepath Psychology), I work with individuals facing trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, stress and burnout, and obsessive or compulsive patterns. I also support individuals integrating psychedelic experiences or seeking to cultivate well-being and personal growth.
