Scott Smith, MD
Ketamine Physician
Mount Pleasant SC
All visits are by Telemedicine.
We start patients on a low dose of Ketamine to use sublingually every three days for the first 30 days. If a positive response is noted, we fine tune the dose and treat people until they reach a baseline of mood. At that point it is important to continue treatment for another six months to avoid rapid relapse. During this 6 month window of increased neuroplasticity, our multidisciplinary treatment team assists patients in pursuing other modalities of treatment including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, daily exercise, behavioral activation, yoga, meditation, and Ketamine Integration Therapy. By the end of this process, most patients are able to discontinue treatment. Some patients with chronic symptoms will elect to continue Ketamine Treatment long term.

For the first five years of my career, I was an emergency room physician and I used Ketamine to sedate children for procedures. Later in my career I worked in a Primary Care setting. I became interested in helping others with ketamine for mental health issues when my wife was treated for resistant depression and had a robust positive response to Ketamine. She went back to school and became trained as a Certified Medical Assistant and we opened a clinic in Charleston South Carolina... two weeks before the pandemic started. This greatly hampered our ability to see patients in person, but through social media platforms, we developed a Telemedicine practice treating patients in the comfort and privacy of their own home with Ketamine Troches. During the pandemic, my mother, who also suffered with recurrent depression, passed away and left me a small inheritance. To honor her memory, I used the proceeds to become licensed in 40 States, and by the end of this year I'll be licensed in all 50 states. One of my grown sons completed a masters in social work and pursued further training in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy. He has joined our practice and we are working on a protocol to provide Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy and Ketamine Integration Therapy by Telemedicine. We are a primary care practice on a mission to make this treatment more affordable, available, and convenient. We also collaborate with therapists across the nation to provide medical supervision and prescribing of Ketamine for their clients engaged in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy. Ketamine Infusion Centers often refer their patients to us to manage Ketamine Maintenance Treatment at home with troches.
