Alex Theberge, LMFT

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
San Francisco CA
My approach to working with people draws from western psychotherapy, eastern spirituality, and various shamanic traditions. Some of the tools I use include EMDR, depth hypnosis, parts-work, meditation/mindfulness, dream work, somatic awareness, guided visualizations, and journey work. What these all have in common is that they work at levels beyond ordinary waking consciousness and offer access to deeper inner wisdom, guidance, and healing.
I am a licensed psychotherapist with 18 years of experience helping people suffering from conditions like depression, anxiety, loss/grief and PTSD/trauma. I also specialize in helping people prepare for and integrate deep healing and transformational work with psychedelic plant medicines. My background includes working in intensive mental health settings such as UCSF’s Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute as well as my experience as a retreat facilitator and apprentice shaman at a plant medicine healing center in the Peruvian Amazon, where I helped guide hundreds of people through their transformative journey with Ayahuasca and other plant medicines. Currently I work in private practice in the San Francisco Bay Area where I continue to help people prepare for and integrate plant medicine ceremonies and entheogenic experiences. I am also a Study Therapist at UCSF's Translational Psychedelic Research Program where I provide psychotherapy for participants in psychedelic-assisted therapy research studies, including preparatory sessions, guided psychedelic sessions, and follow-up integration therapy sessions.
