Bethany Helfman, PsyD

Dr. Helfman has nearly 30 years of experience as a clinical psychologist. Currently in private practice in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Dr. Helfman has been a guest speaker at both national and international conferences on eating disorders, trauma and co-occurring substance use disorders and has published on the topic as well. She is passionate about education and supervises the clinical work of doctoral-level psychology graduate students through her affiliation with the University of Detroit Mercy, where she serves as adjunct professor. In constant pursuit of knowledge and a voracious reader of the latest research, Dr. Helfman believes that learning is a lifelong endeavor and has earned specialty training in many areas including but not limited to: Trauma Certification Training with Dr. Bessell van der Kolk, M.D. MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy training with MAPS (Multi-Disciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) involved with FDA clinical trials of MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy for PTSD Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) training with PRATI (Psychedelic Research and Therapy Institute) for hard-to-treat depression, anxiety, and trauma Attachment Trauma Therapy for Adults with Dr. Diane Pooler Somatic Experiencing (SE) training with SE International focused on nervous system regulation and trauma Advanced Training in Eating Disorders with Amy Baker Dennis, PhD, FAED, Fellow and co-creator of the International Academy of Eating Disorders Acceptance and Commitment Therapy training with Steven C. Hayes, PhD Geropsychology and End of Life Issues through the Miami VA Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (VAMC GRECC)
