I lean heavily upon the work of Carl Jung and don Oscar Miro-Quesada. Jungian Psychology is an alchemical process of psycho-spiritual healing where Self is restored to wholeness, "Individuation," which is based upon transformation through expanded Consciousness. In the same way, shamanism could also be described as a form of psycho-spiritual healing of "Self' through a restoration of wholeness derived from expanded consciousness. I weave these two methodologies together with the goal being to strip away the layers of psychic scarring and the residue of a wounded life so that the recovery of those lost and forgotten star-lit crystal gems of Self are possible. In other words, the way was made, is made, through intention and skilled ceremonial craft that integrates experiences such that what has been lost is
Simply put, my fundamental goal is to share with my clients a holistic path toward healing and wholeness that brings what lies lost and deep within to the surface for personal re-integration. Expanded consciousness is the objective so that the natural and innate elements of our most authentic expression of Self are made manifest in our daily lives.
As a licensed psychotherapist, shamanic practitioner, and sanctioned teacher of the Pachakuti Mesa Tradition, David is passionate about guiding others through the process of healing. With the excitement and intensity of one who has experienced shamanic healing firsthand, his goal is to help wholeness manifest wherever it is lacking. In his own life journey, he resonated with others who hungered for a spiritual practice that was both transformational and practical. David knows well the challenge of living as an embodied spirit that yearns to align with the ideals of right action, compassion, spiritual wisdom, and unity. Ultimately accepting the struggles inherent in living heartfully as one among many, he learned to intentionally honor the sacred necessity of diversity and interdependence. David wears the mantle of one who seeks to serve as an active agent of peace and reconciliation on the personal and planetary levels. For this reason, he has devoted himself to walking a shamanic path, which he seeks to express in his daily efforts to grow corn and potatoes as well as when he serves as teacher, healer, and guide.
In addition to his shamanic lineage training, David holds a Master of Theological Studies degree in Medieval Spirituality from Emory University and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Prescott College. David is a licensed professional counselor with certifications in clinical supervision and trauma. His professional background includes service as the Director of Counseling for a wilderness-based residential treatment program for adolescents, as an Adjunct Faculty Instructor at North Georgia College, as the Vice President of Operations for a social service organization, as a Program Director for a large non-profit home health and case management agency, and as the clinical director for large community mental health center near Atlanta. Currently, David is the owner and operator of Burning Bear Healing Arts, LLC, where he is in private practice offering psychotherapy, supervision, spiritual direction, and shamanic ceremonial healing.
