Karen Nercessian, LMHC

Harm Reduction and Integration Psychotherapist
New York City NY
I like to work with clients based on their individual needs and timelines. I am moving away from weekly therapy sessions, and prefer to work together intentionally and as needed. Sometimes that would mean 2 hours back to back every few weeks and other times that can be based on life events or external stressors. I have a team of excellent therapists and they will work with you one on one , and son a weekly basis, if that is your preference. Ideally I will work with you as you’re preparing to have an experience with altered states- breath work, silent retreats, meditation, psilocybin, ketamine assisted psychotherapy, ayahuasca, etc- and will work with you to integrate your takeaways and insights back into your daily life and your understanding of where you are and who you are.
I am a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Psychotherapist. My pronouns are she/her. My professional experience spans from the nonprofit and corporate sectors to private practice. Most recently, I have been focusing my work on psychedelics assisted psychotherapy and research. I also teach at New York University in the applied Psychotherapy Department. I work with adults, conducting both individual and couples therapy. I offer psychotherapy from a harm reduction perspective for clients who are preparing for psychedelic use, and I provide post-experience integration psychotherapy to foster ongoing growth. I obtained a Master’s Degree in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, both from New York University. I also have two certificates form Fluence: One in Psychedelic Therapy and Integration and another in Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration. I am proficient in French, Arabic and Armenian and if your first and preferred language is one of those, I am comfortable practicing therapy in these languages. I am based in New York City, and also provide tele-therapy.
We provide one on one, couple and group sessions. I use existential and psychodynamic therapeutic approaches, and Internal Family Systems and shadow work frame my perspective. My team also offers additional modalities and approaches.
