Katie Whitaker, CPsych
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practioner
Charlottetown PE
I utilize an integrative approach, including supportive psychotherapy in each session. My therapeutic style is eclectic, holistic, humanistic, and identity-affirming. I have completed post-graduate training in ACT therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and internal family systems therapy, with advanced training in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, including ketamine assisted psychotherapy.
My focus is on providing person-first, trauma-informed psychotherapy from an anti-oppression lens. Sessions may weave in various therapy models, including archetypal work, mindfulness-based therapy, somatic (body-focused) therapy, & Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy when and where appropriate.
Preparation Therapy focuses on helping you to set intentions, understand potential experiences, and mentally prepare for the journey ahead.
Integration Therapy supports you in processing your experiences after the journey, helping you to weave insights gained during your psychedelic sessions into your daily life and personal growth
I am an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with Prescribing authority, and am board-certified through the American Nurse Credentialing Center as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC)
I bring over twenty years of experience in the field of healthcare and hold a Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from Frontier Nursing University, where I completed my Psychiatric Mental Health training and am ANCC certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and licensed with the state of Vermont as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN).
My work began as a Doulas of North America (DONA)-trained labor support Doula, working with incarcerated women, and then I went on to complete my didactic studies with Birthwise Midwifery School as a direct entry midwife. I bring over a decade of nursing experience in reproductive healthcare, substance use disorder (SUD), and medication-assisted treatment (MAT), specializing in working with marginalized and underserved populations living in rural areas.
*Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) including Spravato integrated into a KAP model
Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy, including Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), utilizes preparation sessions before medicine sessions, followed by integration sessions. All sessions are combined with various methods of guidance from practices such as breathwork; therapeutic touch; visualization; archetypal imagery; intention setting; talk and somatic therapies; and music, all in service to promoting access to each person's inner healing intelligence.
