Laurie Maddox, PhD, LCSW
Licensed Psychotherapist
Orlando FL
I believe this life and my clinical work is sacred, and approach each client with gentle reverence. My belief is that there is a natural entelechy or innate wisdom to the psyche. Many changes occur when people are able to bring unconscious content into awareness, often through non-ordinary states of mind. When we deepen awareness of how our mind operates--its patterns, tendencies, vulnerabilities, and general nature--we are able to get in touch with our deepest desires and most creative expressions of self. This knowledge opens new passageways into self-understanding allowing us to solve the more complex problems of our life-world, and to recognize our shared responsibility to the collective evolution of consciousness.
I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and am a Licensed Psychotherapist with a private practice in Orlando, Florida. I have been interested in the study of consciousness and impact of the numinous experience on transformations in human values and sense of purpose throughout my career. In 2000, I became certified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and used this as a practice tool for accessing unconscious mentation in clients with addictive behaviors and thoughts. In 2016 I trained to become a Kundalini Yoga teacher, leading me to incorporate principles of mindfulness, meditation, attuned body-centered awareness, and presence into my therapeutic work. In 2018, I became interested in Psychedelic Psychotherapy after a profound personal experience with ayahuasca. I then began incorporating Psychedelic Preparation and Integration into my psychotherapy practice to assist those adjusting to life after a transcendental experience. I worked in healthcare in the hospital setting for 16 years, as an Instructor in the Department of Psychology at Columbia College, and have maintained a private practice since 2001.
