What should I expect during a first appointment? The first appointment is called an “intake session” that will involve gathering a lot of information like: what brings you to therapy, what your symptoms are, your current life situation, your developmental history, medical history, etc. We will discuss my approach to therapy, your goals and needs, and the structure of therapy (frequency and duration). We also address formal procedures regarding things like intake forms, policies, payment and confidentiality. How long does therapy last? Everyone is different, but typically people notice some improvement within 12 sessions. Within the first 1-3 sessions, we will develop your goals for treatment and decide how often to meet. Around the 12th session, we will check-in on our frequency of sessions and if we feel it is time to adjust or continue as is. Most clients start out having therapy sessions on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, and eventually decrease the frequency of their sessions as they begin to feel better. This gives them more time to practice the skills they’ve learned in therapy, outside of therapy. Many clients will continue sessions according to what is helpful for them, and it is best to keep open conversation with your therapist on what is most helpful for you. How much do sessions cost? See our current fees HERE. If I am not in-network with your insurance and you plan to submit your payment to your insurance for reimbursement, I can provide you with a superbill, which is a service statement required by insurance companies. How do I schedule an appointment or get more information? You can conveniently schedule an appointment or no-cost informational consultation call right online using any of the “Schedule Now” buttons on this website, or by clicking HERE.
