Care begins with a conversation with our admissions team to understand what the client is experiencing, what support they are seeking, and which level of care may be appropriate. When psychedelic-assisted treatment is being considered, clients complete comprehensive medical and psychological assessments to evaluate clinical appropriateness, clarify goals, review potential benefits and risks, and identify any relevant safety considerations.
If treatment is appropriate, the client and clinical team develop an individualized plan that may include preparation, ketamine or SPRAVATO® treatment, psychotherapy, integration, psychiatric support, neuroregulation, or participation in the Heartwood IOP. During individual ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, a trained psychotherapist remains with the client throughout the medicine experience, while a medical provider administers the medication and remains available on-site. Integration sessions help clients reflect on what emerged and embody new insights within their relationships, choices, and daily lives.
Our multidisciplinary team communicates collaboratively so that care is cohesive rather than fragmented. We also recognize that psychedelic medicine is not appropriate for everyone. When another treatment or level of care would be safer or more beneficial, we discuss this openly and help clients consider appropriate next steps.
Widening Circles is an integrative mental health and psychedelic medicine practice located in Asheville, North Carolina. Founded in 2017, we offer a compassionate alternative for people seeking more than symptom management alone. Our multidisciplinary team brings together psychotherapy, psychiatry, psychedelic-assisted therapy, neuroregulation, somatic and expressive practices, and whole-person approaches to mental health.
We specialize in working with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD and complex trauma, grief, major life transitions, and other challenges that have not fully responded to conventional treatment. Our clinicians have extensive experience in psychedelic-assisted therapy, including ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and participation in the FDA Expanded Access Program for MDMA-assisted therapy.
Our Heartwood Intensive Outpatient Program is CARF-accredited, reflecting our commitment to clinical quality, safety, accessibility, and person-centered care. Across all our services, we strive to create an affirming environment in which each person is known, respected, and supported in finding a meaningful path toward healing. We are deeply LGBTQ+ affirming and welcome the complexity of each person’s identity and lived experience.
1. Heartwood Integrative Mental Health IOP: A CARF-accredited, 10-week intensive outpatient program offering structured care for women and gender-diverse adults who need more support than weekly outpatient therapy. Services include group and individual psychotherapy, psychiatry and medication management, individualized treatment planning, neuroregulation, somatic practices, expressive arts, ecotherapy, and optional KAP when medically and clinically appropriate.
2. Group Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy: Available as an optional component for clinically appropriate participants enrolled in the Heartwood IOP. The group model incorporates shared preparation, supported medicine experiences, collective witnessing, and integration.
3. SPRAVATO® (esketamine) Treatment: FDA-approved treatment for eligible adults with treatment-resistant depression, administered in a certified clinical setting with medical monitoring. Therapeutic and integration support may be incorporated into care.
4. Individual Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy: IV or IM ketamine provided in a supported clinical setting, with medical oversight, continuous psychotherapeutic support, preparation, and integration.
